Yes, and it's encouraged. Girls Athletic Leadership School Los Angeles (GALS LA) hosts Open Houses where families tour the campus and learn about the school model. Private tours are also available by appointment. Prospective students in 5th grade and up can also shadow a current student ambassador for a morning through the Student Shadow Day program, offered on select Thursdays. Yes. When applications exceed available seats, families not offered a seat in the January lottery are placed on a waitlist in the order their names were drawn. Families are contacted as seats open, which can happen at any point during the school year. Enrolling families provide proof of address, immunization records, a birth certificate or equivalent, and the student's most recent report card. Families transferring mid-year should also bring any current IEP or 504 plan. Nothing is required to submit the initial Intent to Enroll form — documents are only needed once a seat is offered. 

Yes. As a California public charter school, GALS LA is open to students who live anywhere in the state, and students commute from across the San Fernando Valley. Free bus transportation is limited to the school's service area, with stops assigned by zip code. Families outside the bus service area are welcome to apply and arrange their own transportation. Contact the main office to ask about a specific address. 

Yes. The Intent to Enroll form is available in English and Spanish at galsla.org. The full enrollment packet is also available in both languages, and Spanish-speaking staff are available in the main office, at Open Houses, and at the January lottery to help families through the process. GALS LA offers a college-preparatory curriculum with an average class size of about 20 and a student-teacher ratio of roughly 15 to 1. What sets the program apart is the integration: social-emotional learning and movement-based instruction are built into the academic day rather than added around it, through daily Morning Movement, the GALS Series wellness curriculum, and the school's health and wellness coursework. 

Yes. Students who are ready can take Algebra 1 in 8th grade, which earns high school credit and positions them for advanced math as high school freshmen. Placement is based on teacher recommendation and assessment data. 

Yes. GALS LA provides special education and related services to students with individualized learning needs and follows every incoming student's existing IEP or 504 plan. Services include resource specialist support, speech and language services, and counseling, delivered through a mix of in-class support and pull-out instruction. Yes. GALS LA provides designated and integrated English language development for students identified as English learners, and school communications, enrollment materials, and family meetings are available in English and Spanish. 

Families check grades, assignments, and attendance through the Aeries Student Information System using login credentials provided at enrollment. Day-to-day communication runs through the ParentSquare app, which GALS LA uses for newsletters, announcements, and direct messages with teachers.
